An Eaglewood Encounter

The tasting at Eaglewood yesterday went really well. I captured photos of all the food they provided, but I neglected to photograph all of the wine. First, they served us each a glass of champagne garnished with a strawberry. Then, we both received glasses of their house, base level chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon and merlot wines. I surprisingly enjoyed all of them (I don’t like dry wines), Jim cared for none, and there was quite a bit.

We were disappointed by the potato appetizer, spring roll appetizer, tomato salad, and the stuffing that was included with the chicken. However, the sourdough rolls, quesadilla appetizer, amish chicken, potatoes, vegetables and steak were all notably good.

So, after this tasting, I do think Eaglewood would be a solid choice. We found the standard hotel rooms to be quite wonderful. They had a noticeably pleasant smell, bowed out shower curtain rods, plenty of shampoo/conditioner/bath goodies, and a rather large porch. The downside is the spa and pool were in a separate building across the parking lot. Apparently, they have bowling, though we didn’t get to see that.  I also was very disenchanted with the bathrooms in their bar area for reasons on which I’d rather not elaborate.

After all this, I still think Pheasant Run is the favorite, but tomorrow night’s dinner should help to remove doubt.  Also, it’s important to have a solid runner up in case the negotiations do not go as planned; being able to walk away and be happy at another venue is a powerful card to have up one’s sleeve.

I think that even if this will not be one of our choices for a venue, it would still serve as a place I would enjoy relaxing at. Minus the spa and bowling alley because they aren’t connected to the main building so you have to walk the ought the parking lot to partake their services which seems to counter the stress free aspect if the spa.
