Fine Tuning

On Monday, Jim and I got the chance to meet up with Christine, my church’s piano and organ player, and Brandy, our chosen soloist for our ceremony. Brandy was fresh off of playing the Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz and had practically no voice left from the experience. However, she did a phenomenal job; I can personally vouch for her Saturday performance. Jim and I both were over the moon that Brandy was willing to cantor for us. Her tremendous performance of Climb Ev’ry Mountain when we were in Sound of Music together made her our undisputed first choice.

We spent an hour going through some song ideas for the ceremony and nailed down quite a few.  It helps a lot that I’ve been in choir there for over 5 years and already have developed some strong feelings about the music.  Brandy and Christine were both very helpful and accommodating.  Brandy in particular was so excited to participate and learn the songs we picked for her.

I also just booked the string quartet for our ceremony.  After some painful deliberation that started all the way back in February, I finally decided on Quartet Parapluie.  There were so many options, ranging from passable to one where the first chair violinist had played for the Pope.  I didn’t realize so many people played violin or cello, or that I was so picky about my violins! I recognize now how difficult of an instrument it is to play well, not just technically but also conveying the right emotion.

Fortunately, Melissa Bach from Quartet Parapluie is very prompt to respond (which is more than I can say for my church and reception venue at times) and has a cheerful and helpful attitude. Her quartet comes highly recommended from my wedding coordinator Gina and has a couple of live YouTube videos that helped build my confidence in them.
